Christmas time is just around the corner and to me that equals relaxing with my family and friends and getting to watch movies, eat too much and just chill. With that in mind AND the fact that I haven't made a "Top Ten List" since October, I decided today would be the day to share my favorite movies with you all! Also, I am a sick face today so lounging around watching movies sounds pretty great right about now. Unfortunately, the work is heavy for me right now so I will be back to editing the day away after I post. Another reason I am looking forward to the Christmas break! :)
- The 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice Since I first watched this 5 hour masterpiece, I was convinced I would never be more enamored with a fictional storyline again. This movie AND book are a beloved classic to me....suffice it to say that I can just about quote the whole 5 hours of it.
- Twilight I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry. I am sorry that stupid fangirls ruined a perfectly good series. I am sorry that Twilight has such a lousy stigma now, but you know what, I really could care less. I still adore those books and I loved all the movies EXCEPT the last one. That was a gigantic laughable joke. But truly, I started reading them before the movies came out and for the first time since I was 13 (Pride and Prejudice), I fell completely in love with a fictional story. And don't deny it cause most of you guys out there did too. ;)
- Ever After Until I saw Pride and Prejudice, this was my all time favorite movie. I love the storyline, the time period, Drew Barrymore rocks it and the music is so beautiful. Love everything about this sweet romance.
- Dumb & Dumber Best comdey ever. Hands down. It always will be to me....but I hear a sequel is being made so who knows. Maybe they will totally rock it and make it better than the first. This is Jim Carrey gold.
- Crazy, Stupid, Love This is just one of those movies that I am in the mood to watch at least once a month. It's so so funny and sweet and I love Michael Scott..er..I mean Steve Carell's character, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Amazing performances from everyone and a really sweet storyline. It's a rom-com that ladies and gents can enjoy equally! :)
- P.S. I Love You And this is the one I watch when I have wanderlust, need a good cry, have been listening to Flogging Molly or need a good movie for a Friday night with my husband. He gets his fill of his man crush Gerard Butler and I cry. But in all seriousness, there isn't anything about this one I dislike. Have kleenixes nearby though. I don't know ANYONE (guys & girls) that didn't cry during this one.
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Oh man, this one is complex, romantic, chaotic and thought provoking. It's definitely not a happy-go-lucky movie by any means. The storyline is so unique and interesting and you will fall in love with Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey's stupid, weird, amazing characters. AND it's a movie I watch a few times a year.
- Catching Fire First off, I LOVE the message of these movies/books. I love every aspect as much as I threw those books against the wall at points. It gives you a believable look into government control and allowing that control to invade every aspect of our lives. It chills me to the bone that this kind of scenario could become a reality one day. You may laugh at the idea, but far worse things have been constructed by governments in the past. History repeats itself and allowing ourselves to be numb to the possibilites is simply asking for a repeat. But enough of my rant, that is why I love this series, why I love Katniss and why I walked out of Catching Fire saying it was one of the very best movies I have ever ever seen. Far superior to the first Hunger Games. If you haven't seen it, I highly reccommend it. So go do that during your Christmas break! ;)
- 500 Days of Summer This is another movie I want to watch a couple times a month. I love Summer's character AND I love Tom's character so much. The music, the way the movie is filmed and the true look into a romantic relationship is so refreshing. I can't count the amount of times I've seen this one. But warning, I don't know any guys that like this one. It usually makes guys mad :P
- Donnie Darko My favorite thriller/horror-esque movie if you can even call it that. I don't really know what to say about this one. Put your thinking cap on when you watch this one. I am so critical of this genre of movie, but gosh, this one is just too too good.
This was an incredibly hard list to narrow down. I ALWAYS love finding new favorites though....I like just about anything besides super violent/gory/horror movies. I love thrillers and intense movies, but I am a baby about creepy movies. It's just not for me I guess. Some honorable mentions definitely go to: Tommy Boy, Mean Girls, Coming to America, The Notebook, The Village, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Fools Rush In, Edward Scissorhands, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Hunger Games, 10 Things I Hate About You, True Lies, The Truman Show, and Signs.
So, do you agree with any or all of my choices? What are some of your top favorite movies?
