Thank you for all the amazing tips! I'm definitely saving this post. I'm so happy that I'm not the only one shooting in live mode. My boyfriend is a photographer also; thus, the reason why I get to use an awesome camera--but he always gives me grief for using live mode. I have to use it though, cuz without it I'd have to bracket like every picture I take, lol. Live mode helps me get the color I like, easily.

Oh how I love your photos so much. Thank you for sharing these tips! :) I just "upgraded" from my T3 to a 5D MKI and I must say I do miss the features like live view for situations like this. Patiently saving for the 6D or 5D MKII for next year though.

Also random question and I'm not sure if you've posted anything on this on your blog before but do you have any tips on getting a good photo that needs minimal editing SOOC? I shoot in manual, I understand the exposure triangle, but whenever I read my histogram and it says I'm properly exposed (spot metering of my subject) the overall photo still looks really dark when I pull it into LR. No idea what I'm doing wrong. I feel like I have to overexpose to get proper exposure sometimes.

Thanks Violet for all the advise. A friend of mine actually just taught me how to use my camera in manual mode. I just have to start practicing now. :)

I haven't ever done a post about it, but honestly, I never really pay attention to what the camera is telling me is correct. I just expose how I think it should be and then I move it up or down a bit if it isn't correct. Some people may say I "overexpose" images sometimes, but that's how I like it! Everyone is different and you know better than your camera does!

BlythePonytailParades

I think it takes longer to shoot in live mode, but it's really helpful for certain situations and I definitely use it!

Claire

I think I prefer the image without the use of the reflector, but both are veeeeery pretty. Such a helpful post, thank you for sharing! :D

Hanif

Hey.
I was wondering, what camera and lens did you use in the images no. 3 & 4? (the photos with orange sunrise light)

And btw, love your photos!

BlythePonytailParades

I used an 85mm 1.8 lens :) Thank you!
