Recently I have been working gung-ho on party decorations for my paren't 25th wedding anniversary party in August. As some of you may remember, back in May I posted a DIY for Coffee Filter flowers that you can find right HERE. After seeing them, my mom decided she wanted these to decorate her party using white filters dip dyed in pink instead of brown as I had done originally. So the process begins....
Want to see the step-by-step process? Click here.
So for these, instead of merely soaking them in water as I did in the first step by step, I poured pink acrylic paint in a cup of water and dipped the edges of the coffee filter. They soak up REALLY fast so be sure to only lightly dip the tip and watch the dye sink throughout. The more paint, the more brilliant your tips will be. My mom wanted a pale pink so these turned out perfect! Afterwards, I folded stacks of 5 coffee filters and cut the edges with different patterns. One being a scalloped edge, one a zig zag and one with a pom-pom edge.
Meanwhile, I was scrubbing old olive, marinara, salad dressing, etc. jars out and I began painting the INSIDES of the jars different pastel colors. The theme of the party is pastel garden so I used some white, baby blue, and pink paint. I'm still not done as there are a TON of jars to paint, but you get an idea of what I've been working on. These will house our pretty coffee filter flowers....
As you can see from what looks like my shoddy job, painting on glass doesn't dry very well. So they will all require another coat of paint.
I think once all the jars are done and these flowers are displayed at different heights all on one table, it will look great. I am really excited to have this project finished and get a good look at it all put together. I can't wait to post pictures from this party. It's going to be gorgeous...but you'll have to wait till August for those!
The flowers all look so different and I'm really pleased with the way they are turning out. It may be taking forever, but I think the results are worth it and this is SUCH a cheap project. Seriously, if you are at all interested in substituting real flowers at your own wedding, this is a gorgeous alternative!
Happy Friday everyone! I'm SO excited for this weekend and really looking forward to lunch today. We have food trucks coming to my work for FREE. Free lunch is the best lunch.
Actually, I think the streaky paint in the jars looks lovely!
Great work with the flowers. I can see why your mom wanted them :)

My 8 year old brother has been so excited for me to come home to visit and wants to make paper flowers when I do. I'll have to remember these steps-I've never made them before. I like the shade your turned out and they're lovely paired with the gold and white!

These are adorable and I love how you are reusing old jars. Reduce, reuse, recycle, ya know! Great idea! :)

As i was about to believe and get attracted to the pictures above, the word "DIY" in the title caught my attention more because of the spelling.
