Greetings, all you lovely followers of this sweet little lady’s blog! My name is Roni and I run a little lifestyle slash personal style (slash random) blog over at Roni Feels Nostalgic. Violet is one of my closest blog buddies and while I was excited to guest post in her absence, it took me oh so long to think up what I’d even yap about! Then I was like, “Hellurr! Halloween’s almost here - let’s talk about that!” I’m not sure how into the Halloweeny season y’all get but I absolutely live for it! My hubby has naturally become just as obsessed with the holiday and every year around August he asks in a panic, “Oh my gosh, what are we gonna be this year?! We’ve gotta start working on our costumes!” I adore his enthusiasm.
It’s been a while since I purchased a ready-to-go costume in store aka one that will very likely guarantee a “Bitch stole my look” moment and you’ll spend the rest of the night feeling unoriginal and wondering who everyone thinks wore it better...or is that just me? Well, the last three years we’ve had a blast creating our own costumes. It’s the one time a year that I “DIY”, and it’s so much fun. We scour thrift stores, vintage boutiques, you name it. That way, even if we see someone sporting the same character or idea, it won’t be an exact replica and I’ll retain some originality in the process. Here are some pictures of past Halloweens + a Zombie Prom!
2008: Beetlejuice & Lydia - store bought costumes but funny enough, we didn’t see a single same-costume in the crowd of thousands walking the Vegas strip that night. Whew!
2009: Emily aka the Corpse Bride & Victor - I’m clearly in love with Tim Burton characters. I used an old bridal dress, set a little fire to it for a tattered look, spray painted it (and my hair) and wore blue body makeup. We even handmade my veil. Mikey’s entire outfit is vintage; it was the most bomb velvet suit ever!
2009: Zombie Prom - held in downtown Fremont where we went with about twenty of our friends. Dress in your zombie best, drink, and dance all night long! Google to see if your city is having a z-prom this year! It’s so much fun!
We didn’t celebrate Halloween in 2010. We had just moved from Vegas to New Jersey and we didn’t know anyone or have any time for planning costumes. We stayed home and handed out candy...to the four kids who rang our door bell...and they were all together.
2011: Pinocchio & Geppetto - My yellow blouse is vintage and Mikey handmade my hat; everything else was already in my closet. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a blue bow tie at the time. Mikey took his chances with a store bought costume that he really liked.
Are any of you planning your costumes already? If any of y’all like to create your own, feel free to let me know so I can check it out! I’d enjoy that :) Thanks for truckin’ along through my first guest post, and thanks for having me, Violet!
